WinXP & above / Mono 2.4 & above
yRead3 is an updated and very much improved version of yRead 1 and 2. You can safely install yRead3 alongside earlier versions of the software, and continue to use all of them.
yRead3 is free to download and use, but you're encouraged to
register your copy if you find it useful.
Please note that yRead3 uses the speech engine in the .Net 3 framework, which will only run on Windows XP service pack 2, Windows 2003 server and Windows Vista. The runtime is already supplied with Vista, but users of Windows XP and 2003 will need to download and install the
dotnet 3 or 3.5 framework if it's not already present on their computers. Windows 98 users should continue to use yRead1 and/or yRead2.
yRead3 can also use other speech engines, such as those from AT&T.
To hear samples from AT&T Mike and Crystal (and the same speech in Microsoft's engine), see below.
You can also get a live demo of all the AT&T voices here
The AT&T voices include these languages, in 8 or 16khz (the latter is better quality):
• US English (Mike, Crystal, Claire, Julia, Lauren, Mel, Ray, Rich)
• UK English (Audrey, Charles)
• Indian English (Anjali)
• French (Alain, Juliette)
• Canadian French (Arnaud)
• German (Klara, Reiner)
• Italian (Francesca, Giovanni)
• Spanish (Alberto, Rosa)

AT&T doesn't sell their speech files directly, but if you buy
TextAloud (affiliate link) you can order AT&T voice files at the same time. Once installed, they will work in yRead3 as well.
